Stuv – technical excellence

Date: 24 May 2012

In 1983, Stûv was made up of just two men, Gérard Pitance and Benoît Lafontaine, who decided to join forces to develop and produce an exceptional wood stove – the current Stûv 60 – was designed by Gérard Pitance (professional designer). They subcontracted the production of the components and focused on assembly and installation.

Their capital was creativity and motivation
Start-ups take time, but the company gradually developed, acquiring equipment along the way, increasing its workforce and constantly creating new stove designs.

Today
Stûv employs 120 people, produces 15 000 stoves a year and exports 70% of its production throughout Europe.

In 2006, the company set up the production of stoves in a new 5 000 m2 unit at its site in Bois-de-Villers, near Namur in Belgium. The components are manufactured by subcontractors using state-of-the-art equipment, mainly in Belgium. Assembly, painting, adjustments and quality control are carried out at Bois-de-Villers.

In 2008, a new 3 000 m2 extension in Floreffe became the home of the Research & Development department, the workshop for creating prototypes and the production of cladding
