Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Do Stoves and Fireplaces Cost?

We have such a wide range of products that it is not practical to keep all the lists on the site, but please telephone or email for prices. As a very rough guide, most stoves range from £600 to £2500 with some as much as £6000+, fireplaces range from about £600 to £5000, sometimes even up to £20,000. Our most popular woodburners right now (2022) is about £1400.

Yes. We offer a full delivery service throughout the region using our own transport. We can also use carriers where appropriate and for more distant locations.  Our standard delivery service is a kerbside delivery using our own tail-lift van where your fire will be delivered to site and unloaded by our driver. He will be happy to help you or your installer/builder to move the fire into a garage or the house. If you don’t have help on site then we can arrange a two-man service but this needs to be arranged at the outset.

Yes. For installation, we offer several different “service levels” and we will discuss this to ensure you achieve the best and most appropriate service level for your project. We offer a full in-house, employed staff service and are GAS SAFE registered for gas installations (now including LPG too) and we are OFTEC registered for solid fuel/woodburning installations. OFTEC is not a new organisation but is growing quickly at present as a notification and control body in a similar role to the more well-known HETAS. We also work with a network of fully qualified, registered, insured and experienced independent installation teams. We are equally happy to simply deliver your new fire, or work with your choice of independent installer or builder to facilitate installation. There is no limit to where we can supply but most of our business is done throughout Surrey and West Sussex, and in parts of Kent, Hampshire, South West London, Berkshire etc.

It is always helpful to have a few dimensions of the chimney breast and the room sizes etc. A photo or two of the fireplace and the chimney on the outside can also be very useful – a picture paints a thousand words! For chimney liners and flue enquiries, we will be looking for a picture of the house from the outside which shows the general context of the existing chimney or the position of the new flue so that we can estimate height, clearance from surrounding features and importantly accessibility – so take a few snaps from a position well back from the property so we can see the surroundings.

We operate primarily from the showroom, which is where we display and sell the products. Whilst the digital age makes life easier in many ways, we feel it is still really helpful and important to be able to see the products ‘in the flesh’. As part of the installation service, the installer will carry out a site visit to confirm that everything ordered in the showroom can be fitted. However we can tell a lot from a picture and a few basic dimensions – so we can normally give you a very accurate assessment of costs before you commit to purchase. So whilst a site visit is not normally our first port of call, we will assess each enquiry on a case by case basis and in complex cases, we are sometimes able to arrange an initial visit. Let’s have a chat first either on the phone, by email or in the showroom and we can take it forwards from there.

We’re a local, family-owned, small business that has been operating for over 40 years. We’re good at what we do and have a great deal of experience. Our Cranleigh showroom and HQ is a superb 10,000sq ft facility, laid out over two floors and it offers one of the best selections of fires and stoves anywhere in the South East. We recognise that your free time is precious and so we have gathered together some of the best brands and products from across the spectrum of fireplaces and stoves, and with the full gamut of fuels.  Our showroom in Cranleigh is not on the High Street so our lower overheads enable us to have a bigger selection of designs and models on display – a huge amount of live working displays.  It makes us proud that most people comment that their visit to our Cranleigh showroom was worthwhile and enjoyable – even for those that have travelled some distance.  We often hear the feedback that the displays are much more than expected and the building seems like a tardis. We have parking onsite so you can pull up right outside and just pop in.

No, we no longer sell range cookers – the exception being antique ranges of which we normally have a few on display. We do have one or two woodburners that have cooktops, bread ovens, or pizza ovens.

Yes, we do offer a limited amount of chimney sweeping, service and maintenance. This is primarily for fires we have supplied and/or installed. We also work with a number of local installers and sweeps who we can put you in touch with for the same service when our own team is not available.

Yes, we do offer a limited amount of services. This is primarily aimed at Gas fires that have been purchased or installed through Ignition/Dorking Stoves/Guildford Stoves. We offer routine maintenance, and breakdown/repairs -though this is not a 24 hour or emergency service. We will always try to help out when we can, including for fires not purchased from us.

We sell pre-packed bags of very high-quality kiln dried logs, kindling and compressed woodchip logs. Please phone us to check current stocks.  We also sell firelighters, glass cleaner and all the normal accessories. We also have lists of local suppliers.

Invariably YOU end up paying for the credit somewhere and it is normally cheaper to arrange this through your own bank, that way we keep our prices competitive. Of course, we accept Visa and Mastercard.

The answer is emphatically YES. Our Cranleigh and Holmwood showrooms are only 10-15 minutes over the border into Surrey and much of our business is in Sussex.

Yes, it takes a few days to get used to getting the best out of them, and we can explain the best techniques, but yes they are actually very simple and safe to operate. Seeing is believing – so come on into the showrooms and we can demonstrate them to you.

No!! There was a change to the rules at the beginning of 2022 which means that older design, less clean stoves are no longer manufactured – but in truth, most of the stoves we have been selling for the last few years have already surpassed that. Burning dry wood in a modern eco-design compliant appliance – be that freestanding or built-in – is a sustainable, low carbon, low emission way to heat your home and provide independence from the grid. We are very happy to discuss this with anyone in greater depth – but in essence, there is no problem so long as you burn good quality fuel in a well maintained good quality appliance!

We like to hope that our prices are competitive – especially when taken with the added benefits of advice, delivery and warranty. However, we are always happy to look at a price and do the best we can. Often we will be able to match or beat a price – unless the item is shop-soiled or discounted due to bulk purchase etc. Give us a try.
